Welcome to the Plantation House Company, the home of green / nicotine fingered smokers who enjoy an outdoor hobby. I am Chris Gurney, the founder of Plantation House and, in language that can be understood, I will show you how to provide your own smokes by growing your own tobacco from our tobacco seeds.

This site should answer all your questions, but feel free to e-mail me if not. In 2001 there were around 5000 growers in the UK sowing tobacco seeds from my mother plants thanks to the web - not bad in two years.

How was this rapid growth of tobacco growers generated? The media have been brilliant in informing the public about this site and my tobacco seeds. In September 2001, Carlton TV filmed me growing the tobacco plants, curing the tobacco, manufacturing it into cigarettes and of course, smoking them. This film should be shown on an national TV in the UK early in 2002. Keep an eye on this site and we will tell you the broadcasting times when we are informed - have your video recorders ready! Visit the media page for National and International news coverage, plus BBC News and Radio.

Talk about coals to Newcastle (British joke) but to date 14 countries are growing my seed - visit this site in a year and play spot your flag. There is a video on this site showing how to shred tobacco and make a cigarette. Click it now to allow loading time while you visit this site.

There are two main types of tobacco seed available - Virginia for cigarettes and Havana for pipe and cigar. As most manufactures blend their tobacco, a discount is offered if you purchase both types of tobacco seeds in our handy multi-pack. Your tobacco seeds come with instructions for every stage from sowing to manufacturing and how to generate tobacco seeds for the following year. There is no membership fee and more importantly, the method of curing we give you with your tobacco seeds is bang up to date. If you take my example on keeping hobbies low cost, in 2002 you will be curing batches of 40 pounds (18 kilo's) of tobacco in four week intervals at a one off cost of under £50 for the equipment.

The multi-pack of tobacco seeds could provide 1000 tobacco plants in your first crop, that's 240 pounds of tobacco (108 kilo's). In an interview in July 2001 on BBC London live radio, I was asked how many tobacco plants I grew in my first year. I answered 2000. The dear lady (a smoker) then asked "How many cigarettes is that?". "Two hundred thousand" said I with a smile on my face. Don't worry about the tobacco going off, it improves with time like wine. It's a good job too as I am still smoking tobacco grown 5 years ago. For those with more patience than I have, there is a way to cure the leaf using a greenhouse at little to no cost.

One last point before your mouse gets itchy feet, growing your own tobacco is intended as a hobby, and it gets you outdoors, gives you green fingers, and is an interesting conversation piece. Making cigars is fun too, and a dusky maidens thigh to roll them on is not an impossibility, but do ask first please! Now enjoy your visit, print off the pages if you wish, and note you can buy our tobacco seeds online using our secure credit card processing facilities, or you can post the printable order page.
